Gay Travel Information: Gas Lamp Grille – Newport, Rhode Island
GAS LAMP GRILLE / 206 Thames Street/ Newport, RI 02840 / 401-845-9300
This past summer a friend and I had the pleasure of dining at Gas Lamp Grille in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island.
Gas Lamp Grille is known for its fine food, music, sports and exotic beers, keeping it on the top of the Newport bar scene!
The interior had a classy style with it’s dark wood and Restoration Hardware inspired decor.
I especially liked the gas lamps which gave the restaurant an ambient glow and touch of Charleston, SC meets New Orleans, LA feel.
Intimate and lively, Gas Lamp Grille is the perfect spot to grab a quick bite with some friends, have a drink at the bar while enjoying live music or go on a romantic date.
For an appetizer we ordered the sinfully delicious Pesto Pizza made with a fresh pesto base with tomatoes, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese.
We split the Eggplant Parmesan for dinner. The breaded eggplant was served over pasta, topped with tomato sauce and melted mozzarella. It was very good and extremely filling. We took a large portion home!
And after hearing they had a berry bread pudding, I just couldn’t resist! This New Orleans style bread pudding was the highlight of the evening.
It was served with French Vanilla ice cream, sprinkled with cinnamon and whipped cream. You could taste the blueberry’s and raspberry’s with each bite.
My friend Coreena and I were very pleased with the service and food quality! It’s always a good sign when you talk about returning to a place before even leaving! 😉
Gay & Lesbian Factor: Newport, and Rhode Island in general, is very gay & lesbian friendly. The owner eagerly welcomed me to the restaurant for a review. I also noticed a couple of gay couples there the night we were and they were both being openly affectionate. Everyone should feel very welcome here. With that said I am “OUTING” Gas Lamp Grille as LGBT friendly and worthy of our business.
NOTE: Gas Lamp Grille has live entertainment Wednesday-Sunday. Be sure to check out their web site, www.gaslampgrille.com, for up-to-the-minute information.
