Every great pub has a great story behind it.

Here is the story of the legendary Molly Darcy:

Molly Darcy was a special woman born in Dublin, Ireland in 1891…special in that she lived for almost a century. She lived and associated with people who survived the Great Famine of 1845-51.  She stood outside the smouldering ruins of the GPO Dublin after the Easter Rising of 1916 with a baby in her arms. She coped with the hardships and deprivation of the Troubles, Black and Tans and the Irish Civil War. She lost her husband (Robert “Sheriff” Darcy) in his prime and supported her family in the tough 1930s and through the Second World War by selling fish and fruit from a barrow in Dublin’s Fair City. This was a time of extreme poverty when a mother’s proudest boast was that her children were never barefoot. What a woman!

When Molly passed away in February, 1991 (just two months short of her 100th birthday), she left a proud legacy. Five generations of Darcys were at her funeral with over 100 direct descendants present. Molly didn’t leave a will of money or riches, but passed on a legacy of immeasurable wealth. She left her family a heritage of love, kindness and indomitable spirit, and the strength and determination to overcome life’s adversities.

Her appreciation of life’s simple pleasures and knowledge of nature’s bounty has been passed down through the generations, and her grandson — Bill Cullen, one of Ireland’s best loved celebrities — has celebrated her legacy with the original Molly Darcys pub at the magnificent Muckross Park Hotel in Killarney, Ireland, and now at Molly Darcys, Clayton. Bill has documented Molly’s life in his best selling book, “That’s a Long Way from Penny Apples.”

Rehearsal Dinners & Small Receptions

We offer catering and space for gatherings of two to 100, with custom menus, audio visual services, decorations and more. Create a custom menu and choose the atmosphere that suits your particular tastes.  We offer four different areas to host almost any function!  The cozy Gables I & II, the private Hawthorne Room, an elegant Courtyard and the authentic Molly Darcys Irish Pub.

Tucked behind the Inn, our quiet courtyard features gorgeous wrought-iron gas lamps and ivy-covered walls that set a majestic scene for all special occasions.   The Gables Room is another popular spot for private gatherings.

Delicious authentic dining can be found at Molly Darcys Irish Pub, located inside Seven Gables Inn.  Serving lunch and dinner, the Pub brings a historic story from Killarney, Ireland where the original Molly Darcys is located.  Well known for its award winning Tenderloin Steak Sandwich and perfect draught pours is an ideal dining and mingling destination.
