Ames Boston Hotel – Boston, MA

Ames Boston Hotel / 1 Court Street / Boston, MA 02108 / 1-888-293-4112

Greetings from Rhode Island where it is a balmy 53 degrees as I write this. Trust me, after the winter we have been having, I might as well be in the tropics! 😉

It has been a crazy week as I’ve been battling a sore back and nasty cold, but I am finally pulling myself together and eager to share my experience at The Ames Boston Hotel last weekend. It was one of the best hotel stays I have had in quite some time!

Ames Boston Hotel is located in the historic Ames building which was built in 1893. The Ames building has been referred to as Boston’s tallest building until 1915, and is still considered Boston’s first skyscraper. It is currently the world’s tallest masonry load bearing-wall structure, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 2007 the Ames Building was fully restored as a luxury boutique hotel featuring lodging and conference facilities.

Ames Boston Hotel is the perfect combination of old and new.

The old being the historic structure and the new being the beautifully designed interior and handsomely decorated rooms.

This is one sleek, sexy and sophisticated hotel.

As an admirer of the “small details” I was impressed by everything from the subtlety of the Ames logo on the front window to the entrancing orange tie the hotel clerk wore at check-in.

I noticed how spotless the elevator, floors and rugs were and how fresh the air smelled as we made our way to our room, # 904, which turned out to be what is know as “The Apartment” suite.

I was graciously upgraded to this luxurious unit where, upon first entering (and picking my jaw up off the ground), I kept repeating over and over again wow.

You could throw a thesaurus at me and I would still go back to that one word – wow because that is how I truly felt. Wow. What a unit!

The Apartment is a one-of-a-kind space offering modern luxury, showcasing renowned designer David Rockwell’s inspired and unrestrained originality.

There is an expansive living room with an eclectic mix of furniture that is both luxurious and comfortable in design.

There is a vintage velvet chaise lounge, oversized Moroso sofa and glass & chrome cocktail table.

The white feather drum chandelier adds a touch of whimsy to the room.

The bedroom’s four-poster bed is as comfortable as it is stunning, with its fine Egyptian cotton linens and plush down duvet.

The bathroom is expansive and sexy. Very sexy.

The glass window shower has a pull back curtain, providing a breathtaking view of the city from the bedroom’s window, and, of course, a view of the bed. Just sayin.

IMG_0130

Speaking of windows, one of the best features of The Apartment are the dramatic floor-to-ceiling arched windows that provide breathtaking views of Boston’s skyline.

The Apartment has 2 HDTV’s (one in the living room and one in the bedroom), state-of-the-art entertainment technology, telecommunications center and wireless high speed internet access, which was complimentary.

After settling in we decided to explore the hotel a bit. Located on the 4th floor you will find The Fitness Center, which is open 24 hours a day and accessible with guest room key. The Fitness Center features state of the art equipment & machines.

There is also a great view of the city from the room’s windows.

And if you forgot your workout gear, don’t you worry! Simply stop by the hotel’s concierge desk to purchase an Equinox Emergency Workout Pack which includes one tank/capri legging combo for women or one tee/shorts combo for men, a water bottle, and socks. Includes complimentary laundering services as well.

Although there aren’t any onsite restaurants or bars, the concierge will be more than happy to make personal recommendations and/or reservations for restaurants throughout the city.

Jennifer and I decided to stay in for the night and ordered pizza from a local pizzeria recommended by the hotel.

The hotel does, however, provide a fantastic European Continental Breakfast for $14.95 per person (Monday-Friday 6:30 AM – 10:30 AM and Saturday/Sunday 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM).

The selection was extremely fresh and a great value Jennifer and I thought.

GAY & LESBIAN FACTOR: One of the (many) things I love about Ames Boston Hotel is that they are an active member of IGLTA (International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association) and proudly display their logo on the front page of their web site. Ames Boston Hotel graciously welcomed Gay Travel Information to their hotel and took great care of us from the moment we checked in. I even had the distinct pleasure of meeting the (super friendly and personable) Mark Feinberg, Director of Sales. Mark expressed such genuine gratitude to us for sharing our enthusiasm over Ames Boston Hotel with our clients and readers. Actually, that word sums up Ames Boston Hotel – GENUINE. This is a genuinely beautiful, historic property that takes pride in its establishment and truly appreciates its clientele. Properties like this (and Destinations like Boston for that matter), make me proud to call New England home, especially with all this brouhaha over the recently passed “Religious Freedom Law” in Arizona  that gives business the right to turn away gay people (::cringe::). Sigh. It sure is nice to know we are MORE than welcome in Boston, and I could think of no better place to stay than The Ames Boston Hotel. It goes without saying that I wholeheartedly “OUT” Ames Boston Hotel as Lgbt friendly and worthy of our business!

IMG_0195

Ames Boston Hotel is the type place you will return to time and time again. You will chose the hotel for it’s stunning beauty and location, but mostly for the staff and “people behind the scenes” who make Ames Hotel the spectacular property it is. People who genuinely appreciate your business and show it by what they present to back to you.

I anticipate my return.
