Gay Travel Information – Gem Restaurant & Lounge – Boston, MA

Gem Restaurant & Lounge / 42 Province Street / Boston, MA / 617-482-1213

My partner and I recently had the pleasure of dining at the new Gem Restaurant & Lounge located in Boston’s downtown Financial District.

Greeted by a friendly doorman we entered the dimly lit foyer and proceeded upstairs to the dining room.

My first impression was how special of a place Gem felt. Between the dim lighting, flickering candlelight and Parisian decor I felt as if I was being led to secret supper club.

The staff was extremely friendly and our waiter for the evening, Peter, was as sweet as could be.

The dining area seats 35 and has a very cozy, intimate feel.

Gem was full of couples gazing into each others eyes, sharing food and stealing kisses.

The rain pounding on the windows and modern, contemporary music added to the seductive, alluring ambiance.

We were immediately served delicious, warm bread and butter and drinks were quick to come out.

Jen enjoyed their Posh (made with Stoli Razberi, Chambord, Fresh Lemon, Sliced Strawberries, Bubbly).

For an appetizer we chose the Salumi Board (served with imported and housemade cheeses and proper garnish).

The Salumi Board was super impressive with its delicious assortment of meats and cheese.

We also sampled the Nicoise ‘A La aquitaine’ (Rare Dijon Tuna, Tomato Confit, Green Bean Salad) which was also delicious and flavored perfectly, however, the real shocker, and something I have not been able to stop talking about, is their Fried Gnocchi appetizer served with Plum Tomato Sauce.

Oh my. Words fail me. I have never experienced a gnocchi so light and perfect, nor sauce flavored with just the right amount of sweetness and herbs.

I was shocked, yet not shocked (if that makes sense), to learn that the gnocchi weren’t made with potatoes. Nope. I will leave it at that and say to go experience these for yourself. They will blow your mind.

For my main entree I ordered the Steak & Frites, substituting the house fries for Gem’s Tater Tots served with French dressing. The Prime Rib Eye Steak brushed with garlic butter was absolutely delicious.  The steak was superman sized and cooked to perfection. As a fan of garlic I loved the huge pieces that covered the top of my steak. The tater tots, much like the gnocchi, were fried without being “over fried” and unlike any other I have ever tried.

Jen ordered the Cubano sandwich (pressed and served with Avocado, Chipotle, Ham and Pork Confit).

Again, the sizing of the meal was beyond generous. She especially loved the pork confit!

For dessert we chose the Tiramisu which, like the rest of the food that evening, was unique in both flavor and presentation with it’s whiskey creme and small cup in which it was served.

It was definitely enough for the two of us to share and absolutely delicious.

Due to another commitment we were unable to enjoy Gem’s gorgeous lounge area which turns into a nightclub and from what I heard, get’s pretty hopping around midnight, but we will be back for sure!

GAY & LESBIAN FACTOR: Hot, sexy, romantic, luxurious and gay friendly….these words all sum up Gem Restaurant & Lounge! I felt extremely comfortable dining with my partner Jen and was treated no differently than anyone else. Boston is one of the most gay friendly cities in the world and Gem Restaurant & Lounge should be another “must experience” places when visiting the area. Go for a drink. For dinner. To listen to live music. Go on a date or with a group of friends. Go to impress someone (truly). Relax and enjoy the ambiance. Just be sure to try the gnocchi, ya hear? 😉 No one is allowed to visit this amazing eatery without trying the gnocchi! lol!

Gem is exactly that — a hidden Gem in an historic, gay friendly city.

Make your plans right now to experience this wonderful place. I strongly recommend reservations during the weekend as Gem can get pretty busy.

I can’t wait to return!
