Paddy’s Beach Restaurant / 159 Atlantic Avenue / Westerly, RI / 401-596-2610
No shoes, no shirt, no problem is definitely the motto of Paddy’s Beach Restaurant located, yup, you guessed it….on the beach!
But not just any beach, Rhode Island’s most beautiful (in my opinion) – Misquamicut Beach in Westerly, RI.
Paddy’s is pure FUN! If you are looking for a good time, gorgeous ocean views and beach front (I am talking toes-in-the-sand beach front) location Paddy’s is for you.
There simply is no better place to experience summer!
The main entrance leads you to an open room with video games including some “old school” classics, a huge bar, stage, tables and a gorgeous view of the Atlantic ocean and outside seating.
The staff is dressed in tropical Hawaiian styled shirts, the music is playing and drinks are being poured (and poured….and poured….well, you get the idea!)
You instantly feel the ENERGETIC vibe when you enter Paddy’s! People just seem HAPPY, including the workers! How could they not with a view this spectacular?
It is like the Disney World of beach restaurants. DJ’s, live acoustic music, foam parties, volleyball nights, a tiki hut, dancing, exotic drnks and the ocean…let’s not forget the ocean.
Ahhhh…….
This seasonal restaurant (opens in May – closes in September) is extremely popular each day of the week, day and night.
My partner and I dined at Paddy’s on a recent Thursday night and the place was packed!
One of the things Paddy’s is know for is their awesome drinks (in cute souvenir mugs no less – yes, even Tiki mugs!)
As soon as we sat down Jen ordered a mudslide and I a Pina Colada.
OH. YUM.
These ice cold concoctions were the perfect remedy for this particular hot summer evening. Jen’s Mudslide came in a souvenir mug and included discounted refills!
I kept telling Jennifer that I felt like I was on vacation somewhere in Florida. This could’ve been any one of the beach bar / shacks on A1A through the Florida Keys.
But even the Florida Keys don’t have beaches like THIS.
Between the drinks and the view you almost forget that Paddy’s serves food too! And damn good food at that!
We started with their nachos as an appetizer (covered in melted cheese and topped with scallions, mixed peppers, sliced tomatoes and shredded lettuce. Served with a side of sour creme, salsa and guacamole which is an extra $2.99).
The nachos were plentiful and a perfect start to a great meal.
For our main entrees Jen ordered Paddy’s New England Sampler (an assortment of fried haddock, clam strips, scallops and calamari).
I ordered the Beach Burger (I opted to have a plain burger, but this burger is served stuffed with American cheese and topped with fried macaroni & cheese + onions).
We were both impressed by the size of our meals! My burger was so huge I had to take it apart and took half home! This would be the ultimate experience for someone who loves a unique burger. I mean, c’mon? Fired mac & cheese topping? Woah.
It was cooked well down, yet moist and extremely flavorful!
Jen raved about the flavor of her fish and the generous portion size. She said the batter the fish was fried in was absolutely delicious and light.
For dessert we decided to share the Peanut Butter Pie which was rich, decadent and extremely rich.
For as good as the food and drinks are at Paddy’s I couldn’t get over the view and the fact that I had my toes in the sand as I chowed down.

Gay & Lesbian Factor:
I am not going to lie, Paddy’s does have a primarily straight/college type crowd, HOWEVER, they are also extremely gay friendly and eager to let the LGBT community know what a fun, safe, laid back place they are! My partner and I had a blast visiting Paddy’s. We felt very comfortable being our usual affectionate selves. I actually have been visiting Paddy’s for over 10 years (it is a summer tradition) and have always felt welcome. I have no problem dancing with friends during the DJ dance or foam parties. It is truly one big party and EVERYONE is invited! Paddy’s is perfect spot for a fun date, dinner with friends or the spot to impress visitors! 😉 I found their staff to be quite diverse and super friendly. It gives me pleasure to “OUT” Paddy’s Beach as LGBT friendly and worthy of our business.
I always anticipate Paddy’s opening each spring. There is no place like it in Rhode Island or even New England for that matter!
It will transport you to the lyrics of a Kenny Chesney song:
No shoes, no shirt, no problems
Blues what blues..hey I forgot them
The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with no bottom
And no shirt, no shirt, and no problems!
No problems
Blues what blues..hey I forgot them
The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with no bottom
And no shirt, no shirt, and no problems!
No problems
No problems with Paddy’s Beach.
No problems at all.
