Gay Travel Information: L’ Hotel du Capitole – Quebec City, Canada
L’Hôtel du Capitole / 972, rue Saint-Jean / Québec (Québec) G1R 1R5 / 1-800-363-4040
Quebec City is truly…..special. There is something magical about being in a city, in a different country, whose primary language is French.
There is something even more magical about being in such a place during winter. Yes, Quebec City is bone chillingly cold during the winter months, but that is part of it’s allure. Part of its beauty.
My partner Jennifer and I were there the end of December for a review of L’ Hotel du Capitole.
L’ Hotel du Capitole, bathed in blue, fire red & gold, is a small, 4-star, 40 room hotel located in the heart of Old Quebec. It is the perfect accommodation for a romantic stay or business trip.
We were placed in the hotel’s executive suite which has a queen bed, Podium whirlpool in bedroom, Mezzanine, 2 LCD TV’s, 3 telephone lines, stereo with CD player and minibar.
We fell in love with the historic yet modern feel of the room. Some highlights included the opening of windows that overlooked a gigantic ice skating rink (blasting Christmas music) and the hustle & bustle of the passerby’s below.
I felt like I was in a castle as I peered out the stone structured windows and took in the fairy-tale-like atmosphere.
Some other highlights include music pumped through the bathroom from the stereo in the living area, the beautiful Whirlpool in the bedroom and extremely comfortable bed.
The hotel is located on popular rue Saint-Jean and is walking distance to many shops, pubs, restaurants and attractions. Even though it was frigid outside, Jen and I still managed to walk around and take in the sights.
L’ Hotel du Capitole is home to Theatre Capitole and Le Cabaret du Capitole.
Theatre Capitole has hosted nearly a century’s worth of arts & entertainment. Once used mostly for cultural events, it has evolved into much more than a concert hall.
Since it’s reopening in 1992, this prestigious and storied hall amazes both its renowned performers and their audience.
The theatre’s decor – majestic stairway, gilded trim, luxurious railings and red drapery evoke the feeling of a bygone era.
During our stay we had the pleasure of attending Roch Voisine’s ‘Americana’ show at Theatre Capitole. This fantastic concert took us on a road trip of America through some of the best “Americana” songs of the past several decades. Roch Voisine has a beautiful voice and put on quite the show. He performed songs from Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Eagles and Elvis, to name a few. The theatre was packed and absolutely stunning. The theatre is home to productions throughout the year. Le Caberet du Capitole, housed in the old Cinema de Paris, has been made to create a warm atmosphere, with small round tables, velvet-covered chairs and an Art Deco decor. The hall seats 565 people and adjoins Le Capitole de Quebec complex.
The hotel is also home to the Italian Ristorante II Teatro. Having been to Quebec City numerous times and dining in many restaurants, I can honestly say Ristorante II Teatro provided one of the best experiences yet.
The restaurant provides fine dining in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and provide delivery to guests staying at the hotel. For guests not staying at the hotel, worry-free parking is available through valet.
For an appetizer we had the Insalata Caprese made with tomatoes, basil, mozzarella and olive oil. It was extremely fresh and aromatic and just a preview of the fantastic food to come.
For our main entrees I ordered the Capellini Don Corleone (fresh tomatoes, basil, garlic, olive oil and bocconcini) and Jen ordered one of the night’s specials which included thai peanut flavored grilled chicken and shrimp.
Both meals were bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. Like a magic trick, they were gone almost as soon as they appeared! 😉
And, of course, what is a fantastic meal without a fabulous dessert ending?
I ordered the Tiramisu della casa, an Italian staple made with Ladyfingers and flavored with coffee and Mascarpone cream.
Jen ordered the Torta di frutti di bosco which is a wild berries pie on sweet pastry and custard.
Both desserts were orgasmic and worth the guilt! 😉
The service was extremely attentive without being obnoxiously overbearing. A perfect dining experience for sure!

Gay & Lesbian Factor: Okay, this is Canada. Enough said. Gays & Lesbian’s should feel extremely comfortable vacationing in Quebec City and staying at L’ Hotel du Capitole. The staff was extremely welcoming to my partner and I and eager to work with Out & About Travel / Gay Travel Information. We felt extremely comfortable being affectionate in public and would absolutely stay here again. I am hereby “outing” L’ Hotel du Capitole as LGBT friendly and worthy of our business.
What an experience! What a beautiful property! What a fantastic play! What an amazing dinner! Everything about Le Capitole de Quebec was A+! I can hardly wait to return.
