A charming stroll through the streets of Salem, Massachusetts leads you right to the Capt’s Restaurant located on Pickering Wharf. You can dine in any of the various nautical themed dining rooms: Topsides, which is the the upstairs dining room; the airy sun-drenched deck (seasonal); or the Capt’s Pub.
The table by the window we were seated at in the Capt’s Pub gave the feel that we were eating dinner aboard a boat that was docked in the gorgeous, historic Salem Harbor.
The waterfront views even on a cold day are breathtaking and relaxing. The décor inside added to the ambiance of enjoying a romantic meal aboard a ship.
We started out by ordering an appetizer special, Oriental Chicken Pizza on wheat bread.
This was an amazing, mouthwatering blend of flavors and we couldn’t stop saying “Oh My God!” after every bite.
I enjoyed a Charcoal Steamed Lobster with rice and chef’s vegetables. As a lobster lover, this was by far the most delicious, flavorful lobster I have ever had in a restaurant.
Capt’s prides themselves on their lobsters: “These lobsters are as fresh as can be. We split and clean them, add butter, then double wrap them in foil to seal them tightly and lay them on the charcoal. The intense heat of our charcoal grills steams them in their own juices. You won’t find a more tender, moist and flavorful lobster anywhere.”
My partner enjoyed the Roasted Rosemary Lemon Chicken with mashed potatoes & chef’s vegetables. The presentation of this dish made one’s mouth water. The flavors in the sauce were beyond delicious.
I had the Dark Flourless Chocolate Cake “Sundae” with raspberry puree and raspberry whipped cream for dessert and my partner enjoyed the Sticky Toffee Pudding, a house specialty of a British sponge cake served warm, topped with ice cream and homemade toffee sauce.
We could not stop stealing bites of each others’ dessert as they were both equally sweet and tasty.
Gay & Lesbain Factor: There were various groups of people dining around us as well as heterosexual couples and my partner and I felt completely comfortable having a romantic dinner date. The staff made us feel welcomed and was delighted to wait on us. I am officially OUTING Capt’s Restaurant as Gay & Lesbian friendly and worthy of our business!
