Gay Travel Information: Field of Screams – West Greenwich, RI – Halloween Fun!

Field Of Screams – 179 Plain Meeting House Road / West Greenwich, RI 02817 / (401)-884-7369.

Field of Screams, located in beautiful West Greenwich, RI is a must do for Halloween enthusiasts!

Your adrenaline will start to pump before you even arrive, as you drive the winding roads, lit only by moonlight. At one point I said to my partner, Jennifer, that I felt like I was driving onto the set of Friday The 13th! May I recommend a music mix of classic rock, including the forever popular, ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’? Spooky factor – 10 out of 10!

I felt a sense of relief when I saw the sign for ‘Field of Screams’ and made the turn over the gravel and grass to the parking area, which is – FREE (niiiice).

My partner hadn’t experienced a haunted attraction since she was a teenager (we are both in our 30’s now), and it had been ages since I had gone to a haunted attraction with someone who was truly eager about going, so to say I was excited is an understatement!

Everything felt like a movie set. Walking past the rows of parked cars. Headlights illuminating the deeply forested area and hearing the cracking of twigs and gravel as we walked hand in hand toward the ticket booth.

One of the benefits of this review was being able to access the VIP line, which meant — no waiting. There was a pretty long line by the time we got there Friday evening (shortly after 9pm). There was a nice mix of teenage boys, parents with kids, adults and, of course, the always enjoyable herd of scared teenage women!

I was introduced to Tim, one of the organizers of Field of Screams. Tim was a cool guy, to say the least. His smile and enthusiasm for what he was doing was truly infectious. He explained to us that there are over 100 (paid) actors and that he purposely keeps the cost low, $18.00 per person, so that families with more than 1 children can go out, get scared and not break the bank. As mentioned earlier, parking is free and there are even food items priced incredibly low (burgers – $2, hot dogs $1,50 etc.,). Tim also explained how there are three attractions. The Haunted Insane Asylum, Dead River Haunted Hayride and 4D Cirque Du Souls.

Before Jen and I knew it we were being escorted into The Haunted Insane Asylum. Wow. This was scary (and Jen and I don’t scare easily). The darkness, mixed with the scare actors, props and musty, wood smell made for a heart stopping good time.

Since I was doing a review, I was able to bring my camera and captured some pretty impressive props that one may not notice in the darkness. You can tell a lot of hard work goes into this production. The scare actors were very into character and did a great job of “jumping out” just at the right moment.

We survived The Haunted Insane Asylum and found ourselves climbing onto the trailer for the hayride portion of the attraction, Dead River Haunted Hayride, which did not disappoint!

One of the best parts is riding out into the field, looking up at the sky bursting with stars, smelling the crisp cool air, feeling the coldness on the tip of your nose and fingertips. The night just FELT like Halloween. This ENTIRE experience is what Halloween is all about!

Within a minute of departing you come across the first scene.  While admiring the intricate costume designs of the scare actors and cool props, I failed to notice some of the scare actors jumping onto the trailer itself! Great touch! This scared all of the kids and especially the herd of teenage girls! 😉 I was truly impressed by the set designs and the skills of the actors. They did an excellent job!

Feeling that Halloween shiver we climbed off the trailer and took a small path which lead to Cirque Du Souls 4D!

I have to say, this was one of the best 4D experiences I’ve ever had, and I have witnessed them at several haunted attractions.

The colors pop out both on the walls and scare actors themselves! It was definitely “trippy” and exciting and a perfect way to end this entire experience.
