The Balneology Association of North America (BANA), the leading authority of therapeutic bathing and medicinal springs, has classified our natural mineral waters as distinctive, neutralizing, proven to strengthen skin, balance and reset stressed nervous systems, hydrate, and detoxify. Repeated dips in our three pools can have a cumulative effect. So stay with us, and soak, soak, soak – Doc’s orders!
Daybeds and Private Cabanas
Treat yourself to the ultimate pool day for you and your family or friends. Our cabanas feature a cushioned double daybed, overhead fans, and a shaded tent with curtains for a more private experience, while our daybeds beckon you to lounge poolside in the sun or beneath an umbrella. Enjoy towel service, drinks and food for purchase at House of Better, and an outdoor shower while you slip into our two outdoor and one indoor mineral pools.
Mineral-Rich Healing Power
The water from our hot springs contains minerals like sulfur, zinc, magnesium, calcium, and bromine that help draw out impurities from the skin, exfoliate dead skin cells, relax sore muscles and joints, improve skin conditions, like eczema and psoriasis, and relieve pain from rheumatoid arthritis.

Jon “the Doc” Wilkinson was a wellness pioneer who introduced the world to Calistoga’s special volcanic ash mud and natural geothermal mineral springs. After he discovered and fell in love with Calistoga and the wellness gifts it gave to the world, he founded the spa resort in 1952 to share the benefits of mineral water and the miracle of volcanic ash through his original recipes and treatments that he perfected. Still remaining one of the very few places to mud bathe in the world today, Dr. Wilkinson’s Backyard Resort and Mineral Springs is a health oasis reimagined for the modern traveler.
