Bella Restaurant and Banquet in Glendale, Rhode Island is that wonderfully, authentic “old school Italian” restaurant everyone searches for.
This five-star dining and wedding venue is one of Rhode Island’s favorite family owned Italian restaurants and banquet facilities.
Giuseppe Calapai, a descendant of Sicily, has been in the hospitality industry for over 35 years. He first started as a chef on a luxury cruise ship before opening his own restaurant. He was the original owner of the famed Blue Grotto Restaurant on Federal Hill in Providence, Rhode Island. Giuseppe and his son, Chef Gio, opened Bella Restaurant together in 1998, continuing the Calapai tradition of providing an unsurpassed dining experience.
Gay Travel Information recently had the pleasure of dining at Bella’s.
Upon arrival we were greeted by manager, Scott, who took great care of us throughout the evening.
The interior of Bella’s is covered in colorful displays of art and beautifully painted wall murals.
Scott was sure to give us a tour of their banquet hall, which would make the perfect setting for a wedding celebration or special event.
The restaurant will cater to your specific needs and work with you and your budget.
Scott also mentioned how eager Bella’s is to welcome the LGBT community and looks forward to hosting gay weddings now that they are legal in the state of Rhode Island!
Let’s talk food, shall we?
One word comes to mind….. DELIZIOSO!
All dishes are prepared fresh daily (including their mozzarella….yum!)
The restaurant provides a seasonal menu utilizing only the freshest of ingredients.
We started the evening off with an in house grilled Margheita Pizza (made with marinara, fresh mozzarella cheese, basil and extra virgin olive oil).
The crust was thin and crunchy — cooked to absolute perfection.
For our main dishes we ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana with linguini (Sicilian style eggplant layered with mozzarella cheese and served with pomodoro sauce) and Pollo Parmigiana with penne pasta (fresh chicken Italian bread crumb encrusted, lightly fried and topped with mozzarella cheese and pomodoro sauce). Both of our meals came with a side salad and fresh Italian bread.
In my opinion Italian food is as only good as its sauce, and Bella’s sauce is phenomenal! The serving sizes were also very generous, however, this didn’t stop us from saving room for dessert! 😉
We indulged by ordering Tiramisu and the Chocolate Volcano.
Both were delicious and beautifully presented!

Chef Gio’s artistry stems from having a Sicilian background, training bymultiple Grade A Chefs, his father’s worldly knowledge of the hospitality business and his own studies which transformed him into a versatile and innovative Executive Chef. His attention to detail, passion for flavor, and ability to produce Five Star Quality Cuisine for Large Events has made him one of the best Chefs in New England. Chef Gio loves to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for food with his patrons through his Demonstration Dinners which he schedules every couple of months. He is known for Authentic Italian Cuisine with a Contemporary twist.

From the moment I reached out to Sarah Calapai, office manager & personal event coordinator, in regard to spotlighting Bella’s Restant and Banquet on Gay Travel Information I was met with open arms and eagerness. There isn’t anything NOT to like about Bella’s. The food is delicious and authentic. The staff is friendly. The owners are hard workers and craftsmen at what they do and they are genuinely welcoming to the LGBT community. It is a win-win situation. We get great food and service while supporting a business that supports us. Sounds good to me! I happily “OUT” Bella’s Restaurant and Banquet as LGBT friendly and worthy of our business.
Rhode Island has no shortage of Italian restaurants. We are known all over the world for our culinary scene. I am proud to consider Bella’s Restaurant and Banquet among the best and look forward to dining there once again.
