Women’s Week Provincetown | October 13-19, 2014

Women’s Week Provincetown
October 13 – 19, 2014
For the past thirty years, Provincetown has hosted a festival in October like no other. It’s a celebration of Women, sponsored by the Women Innkeepers of Provincetown, and it turns this vibrant seaside haven at the tip of Cape Cod into a Women’s festival that has over 150 different events for every taste and interest.
Whether it’s getting to see the best performers and comics in lesbian culture today, or just getting to walk down Commercial Street holding hands, there is something for everyone in Provincetown during Women’s Week.
Over the years, Women’s Week has grown way past anyone’s expectations — scores of performers of all kinds — comics, opera singers, comedians, drag king bands, jazz and blues singers, local talent and international talent — icons of women’s music and new fresh talent just starting out — all come to Provincetown to perform for our crowds during Women’s Week.
There are original plays, our own version of American Idol, walking tours, workshops, meet-and-greet events, the list goes on and on. In the past several years, there is a lesbian literary festival that has grown up inside Women’s Week, featuring the best in lesbian fiction today. Many of our favorite authors come to do readings and book signings during the week.
Our flagship events during the week have wide appeal: our Community Dinner, held this year on Tuesday, October 14, is an annual event for over 300 women who will be treated to the music and comedy of a dozen different Women’s Week performers. It’s also the event where the Women Innkeepers of Provincetown honor a woman in the community as our Woman of the Year. This year’s recipient is Char Priolo, local activist, longtime Women’s Week emcee, and founder of the before-their-time gender-bending band, The Fabulous Dyketones.
Other events scheduled for the week include a Golf Tournament on Wednesday, October 15, and a Women’s Week Clambake later that day; a Fun Run & Walk on Thursday morning the 16th, followed by a Women’s Week Idol Show that night. There are dance parties every night, brunch with celebrities many times throughout the week, and the Grand Finale party on Saturday the 18th.
