Architect’s Inn – Newport, Rhode Island

Architect’s Inn / 2 Sunnyside Place / Newport, RI 02840 / 401-845-2547

The first word that came to mind when I saw Architect’s Inn was exquisite.

Located in the center of Newport, off famous Bellview Ave (the historic playground for the rich and famous), The Architect’s Inn – George Champlin Mason House B&B, is a palatial property constructed in 1873.

George C. Mason was a famous Newport mansion architect. The 23-room Swiss Chalet Styled Victorian mansion offers 5 beautifully, uniquely decorated guest rooms decorated in period furnishings.

You can enjoy their verandah overlooking the gardens in summertime or enjoy their cozy fireplace in the winter.

There is plenty of free off-street parking which is a rare commodity in Newport. They are also walking distance to the beach, restaurants, museums, mansions, shopping and more.

One of the things that make The Architect’s Inn extra special is the fact that they are the ONLY gay owned, operated and owner occupied Inn in Rhode Island. Innkeepers Nick & Brian will take great care of you (they not only offer a completely organic breakfast menu in the summer, they can accommodate any special dietary needs). My partner and I were excited to find fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and lemon bars upon arrival! 😉 The owners are also extremely active in Newport’s LGBT community.

I love that guests are asked to remove their shoes prior to entering the home to preserve the mansion’s original hardwood floors. Bravo for that! The second Jen and I entered the inn we felt like we were transported to the 1800’s.
There is so much to take in and appreciate. We took our time meandering through the common areas and admiring the antiques that adorn each room.

Our room for the evening, The Belmont Room, the historic bedroom and office of George Mason Junior, who also became a well known architect.
The room is absolutely stunning with an extremely comfortable queen canopy bed, working fireplace, flat screen TV with DVD, CD player, private bath with an ensuite shower (for two -a’hem) that opens to the room and two wing-back chairs.
This is one of the inn’s most popular rooms perfect for a romantic escape.

Jennifer and I LOVED Architect’s Inn. From arrival to departure it was truly a memorable experience.

As a travel agent I cannot stress how fantastic a property this is, especially to the LGBT community. It is so important we support LGBT owned/operated businesses.

Gay & Lesbian Factor:

As mentioned earlier, Architect’s Inn/Inn Bliss are the only gay owned, fully operated and owner occupied inn in Newport. I have known of owner, Nick, for quote some time. We had met years ago when I was first starting Out & About Travel. It is nice to see business thriving for such a great guy. The inn would be a perfect honeymoon spot or romantic getaway. With their concierge service they can pretty much arrange anything for you. Also, Nick & Brian are ambassador’s of Newport’s LGBT scene and a great resource of information! The rooms are stunningly beautiful and historic. The location is fabulous. The prices are extremely reasonable. You are close to the beach & Newport’s top attractions and you will be supporting a gay owned business. What more do you need? 🙂 It goes without saying that I am “OUTING” Architect’s Inn / Inn Bliss as LGBT friendly and worthy of our business.

I started Out & About Travel at the age of 23. Throughout the years I have had many ups and downs with the business and have come to learn so much. The past year I have reclaimed the glory days of Out & About Travel’s success with Gay Travel Information Blog and this time I am going to provide extra focus on locally owned LGBT businesses and give them my complete support. At the ripe age of 35 I feel a desire to mesh more with my local LGBT community.

I fully endorse Architect’s Inn & Inn Bliss. I am not only excited about returning myself, but also letting all of our readers know about these amazing properties. Whether you are a local or a visitor, a stay at Architect’s Inn and/or Inn Bliss is a MUST!
