I asked AIDS Project RI executive director Thomas Bertrand, “Besides raising money to provide services to those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS, what other goals does the walk have?” Bertrand said that the AIDS Walk For Life Rhode Island is the marquee fundraiser event for the organization. “Getting the press to talk about the importance of HIV and AIDS by getting tested and prevention is critical,” he said.

The organization, AIDS Project RI, serves all of Rhode Island and focuses on prevention programs, community based testing, and providing quality services. Bertrand said the walk is a “celebration for people living with HIV and the progress that has been made.” The walk is also a way to remember a loved one who died from AIDS. The community support at the walk is vital in spreading the word about prevention and getting tested.

Walkers will enjoy food from restaurants like Cuban Revolution, coffee and iced tea from Starbucks, and chair massages from Healing Hands Massage Therapy.  Music will be provided by Romantic Receptions DJ Philip Weston and there will be a performance from the Providence Gay Men’s Chorus.
