Green Land Café / 87 Washington Street / Salem, MA 01970 / 1-978-744-7766

Green Land Café located in the heart of Historic Salem, MA prides itself on its dedication to sustainability which can be seen as soon as you walk through its doors. The charm and character of this place does the “Go Green” thing with absolute style and grace.

They use reclaimed materials and environmentally friendly products including wide plank flooring made from reclaimed New Hampshire pine, a hand-crafted bar made from the building’s original oak doors, only cloth napkins will be found, and plastic cups (are not plastic) are made from a corn product.

“What we strive to do every day at Green Land Café is to offer you tasty food in a great atmosphere at a reasonable price…and to do some good along the way.”

Green Land Café  is committed to sustainability with menu items that embrace organic, locally grown and harvested ingredients, including fruits and vegetables from nearby farms, cheeses from Vermont, meats and poultry from domestic sources, and seafood from New England. From presentation to taste, you will know that the best ingredients went into these expertly prepared dishes. They also have Vegetarian and Gluten-Free options and specials or the chef will create a custom vegetarian dish.

We started off with an appetizer, the Edamame Hummus served with toasted pita chips. The pita chips tasted great alone, but it was hard to resist the unique and tasty flavor of the hummus.

I had the New England clam chowder made with fresh Ipswich clams and cider brined bacon. There were so many flavors to this chowder and the broth was simply amazing. The freshness of the chowder really stood out.

I had the Seafood Alfredo made with the freshest shrimp, scallops, and baby clams that were melt in your mouth good. The roasted red pepper and sweet peas added to the wonderful flavor of the Alfredo sauce making it a unique and distinguished dish.

My partner had the Chef’s Cut of the Day. This was by far a very well selected piece of beef. The meet was tender and juicy and it was cooked to order perfectly. The sauce was full of flavor and not overpowering.

We were so full from our meals so we shared dessert. Mr. McGee’s Bread Pudding was so good we should have and could have easily each devoured our own instead of sharing.

Green Land Café has perfected the combination of the good-to-the-environment way and fine dining at reasonable prices.

Gay & Lesbian Factor: As soon as we entered, my partner and I felt very welcomed. The low lighting and the hip and trendy environment factor made it very easy and comfortable for some flirting on our date night. We were able to enjoy a romantic dinner in style, so I am officially outing Green Land Café as environmentally friendly as well as gay and lesbian friendly!
