Gay Travel Information: Kiwassa Lake B&B – Saranac Lake, NY – Adirondacks

KIWASSA LAKE ADIRONDACK BED & BREAKFAST / 1150 Kiwassa Lake Road / Saranac Lake, NY 12983 / 1-518-891-5721

This spring I had the absolute pleasure of staying 2 nights at Kiwassa Lake B&B located 3 miles from the beautiful village of Saranac Lake and 10 miles from the Olympian Village of Lake Placid, in the Adirondacks.

The excitement builds as you drive the winding road up to the perfectly hidden property located on 20 wooded acres on the edge of Lake Kiwassa.

The rustic ambiance and natural setting is striking!

I was greeted by the affable Margie Chochran upon arrival. She and her husband own Kiwassa Lake B&B and Cochran’s Adirondack Cabins , also located on the premises.

Margie is one of those people that instantly make you feel like family and as if you’ve know her your entire life. You truly feel like you are stepping into a friends house.

I was shown to my beautiful room, Eagle View, and given a brief tour of the other 3 rooms, Moose, Pike and Bear. Some have a fireplace, deep soaking hot tub and balcony. The decor is rustic country. Margie hand picks all the room decorations and has done a fabulous job!

The Eagle View room has a direct Adirondack lake and sunset view that will leave you breathless. There was even a private deck that provided a perfect spot to relax, breath in the fresh Adirondack air (and Margie’s amazing cooking) and take in the serene scenery.

The room has a queen bed, shower/tub combination, a sliding glass door that opens to your own private balcony with seating, TV and Wi-Fi.

Included with your stay is an Adirondack breakfast that is served in the spacious dining room overlooking the Adirondack State preserve.

The views are nothing short of spectacular, especially when the fog starts to burn off, the birds start singing and squirrels run around.

Breakfast is served at 9am from a rotating menu typified by rich, hearty main dishes prepared by Margie herself! Good strong coffee and your choice of juice is also included. While there I was treated to Blueberry Pancakes, Dutch Apple Pancakes, freshly baked muffins, crispy bacon, fresh fruit and potato cakes. It was one of the best breakfast I have ever had….hands down.

Kiwassa Lake B&B has lots of water sport options available, including kayak, canoe, rowboat and motor boat rentals.

They can even set up a spa reservation at The Mirror Lake Inn.

The town of Saranac Lake is also worth a visit. You can feel the history as you walk down the main street and past the lake itself.

I took a drive to the village of Lake Placid which has a wonderful Austrian ski resort feel! There are lots of shops, restaurants and cafes to check out as well as the Olympic Lake Placid Museum and Arena.

Kiwassa Lake B&B is great in the winter time too as it is perfect for XC-skiing and close to Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid.

The amount of peace and tranquility I felt in less than 48 hours I spent at Kiwassa Lake B&B was simply amazing. This is the perfect place for peace of mind or a romantic getaway.

Gay & Lesbian Factor: Margie was extremely welcoming to me and my traveling companion. We felt very comfortable being ourselves, talking about our private lives with Margie and by the time we left, felt like we made a friend for life. With that said, I am hereby OUTING Kiwassa Lake B&B as gay & lesbian friendly.

I can’t wait to make a return visit, not only for the b&b itself, but to visit with an “old friend.”
