With so much room to spread out, you can claim a favorite spot for yourself — either steps from the beach or steps from the bar and restaurant. BEACH:

palms11

The Palms’ Beach is ideal for snorkeling and swimming.

The Palms at Pelican Cove received the very first internationally recognized Blue Flag in the U.S. Virgin Islands! On Dec 1, 2011 at 9am, environmental history was made in the U.S. Virgin Islands when the very first Blue Flag was raised on the beach at The Palms at Pelican Cove. The following month, readers of the Virgin Islands Daily news voted The Palms the “Best Beach Resort on St. Croix” for 2012.

A significant internationally recognized achievement, the flying of the Blue Flag symbolizes that a property offers the highest standards regarding water quality, safety, environmental management and education. The Blue Flag program became an international award in 1987 and has since spread across the globe. With the inclusion of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Blue Flag sites total 3,650 throughout Europe, South Africa, Brazil, Canada and the Caribbean.

Because the beach spans the entire length of The Palms’ property (around 1400′), you will have a beautiful beach and sea view from just about anywhere on the resort grounds. Never more than a few feet away, the long stretch of beach has plenty of room for you to take a leisurely walk, go for a jog, build a sandcastle with your kids, or let the sound of the waves lull you to sleep as you relax in a lounge chair.

No need to pack your own snorkel gear as The Palms has fins, snorkels, and masks in every size for guests to use. Our friendly staff is happy to lend these to you, help you find the right fit, and give you some tips on snorkeling the fringes of Long Reef; which is just a few yards off shore. Once you get the hang of it, consider signing up for a St. Croix Snorkeling excursion with S.C.U.B.A. or another tour operator. Please see our Hotel Recreation page for details on each of these beach activities at The Palms:

  • Guided snorkel tours of our reef, often led by the hotel’s own Chuck Fischer. See our scrapbook for photos.
  • Scuba lessons / certification right here in our pool. (available through local SCUBA operators)
  • Yoga classes and meditation take place on the beach regularly. No experience necessary.
  • Additional amenities at The Palms are listed on our amenities page.

RESTAURANT:

x-palms-courtyard-area-1024x768

The Palms Restaurant is a favorite St. Croix dining spot!

The natural setting of The Palms Restaurant underscores the award winning flavors coming from the kitchen. The atmosphere can be dressed up or down; dining may be available al fresco by the sea in our open-air beach side pavilion or in the semi-formal Mahogany Dining Room. The Palms Restaurant is a favorite among locals and has very reasonable prices.  Locals aren’t partial to “resort” prices for dining, and because The Palms’ prices are favorable, there tends to be a lively and diverse locals patronage.

Seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m., your meals are served just feet from the shoreline, at the bar, or delivered to your room.

Breakfast — Served 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily
Home-style American breakfast featuring a selection of griddle, continental and egg dishes.

Lunch — Served 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily
Lunch at The Palms is served beachside and may include specialty sandwiches and soups, mixed salads, finger foods, and traditional favorites such as burgers, pasta, quesadillas and fish & chips.

Dinner — Served from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The hotel’s chefs know how to balance a menu with a combination of Caribbean inspired gourmet dishes and all-American favorites like a good ole’ char-broiled ribeye steak, for which The Palms has been voted “Best Steak on St. Croix”. The dinner menu is complete with daily specials, but you can always rely on a locally caught and prepared fresh fish, a selection of beef, pork, chicken, and pasta dishes, all seasoned with locally grown produce and spices. Start your meal with our freshly prepared soups, salads and appetizers, finish it with our homemade desserts, and you have an evening to remember.

Sunday a la carte Brunch — Served 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sundays
All your brunch favorites served in a picturesque beachside setting, often with live music.

The outdoor restaurant, bar and pool deck spill right onto the sandy beach. The perfectly located bandstand can showcase St. Croix’s local music scene as you’d like it – a DJ and your favorite songs, the tropical sounds of live steel pan drums, classic jazz, Caribbean reggae, salsa, or even a classical music ensemble. We can create a fantastic buffet-style meal for your group, or we can have a more formal sit-down meal, both with professional and friendly wait service.

In collaboration with S.C.U.B.A., our preferred dive partner on St. Croix, guests at The Palms have the opportunity to “TRY-DIVE” with a free session. Depending on your comfort level, beginners can start in their fresh water pool or in the shallow ocean water. If you enjoy the lesson and want more, S.C.U.B.A. will apply your lesson as a credit toward the certification requirements to become an open-water diver. To read more about scuba diving on St. Croix, see the Top Ten Dive Sites on St. Croix.

Snorkeling on St. Croix – No need to pack your own snorkel gear when The Palms has fins, snorkels, and masks for guests to use. Turtle Watch (seasonal) – Each spring, the endangered giant leatherback, the small green turtle, and the distinctive hawksbill turtles emerge from the sea, scoop out the sand, and lay their eggs. In the months that follow, thousands of two-inch turtles make a mad dash to the sea. During summer months, guests can participate in periodic nighttime turtle watches, sponsored by the St. Croix Environmental Association. This activity is based on space availability and, of course, depends on the turtles!

Complimentary Guest Computer – Internet in the guest rooms is spotty at times and not guaranteed, so the hotel provides a computer with high-speed internet connection in the lobby that is available to guests at no charge.   Complimentary Wireless Internet is also available in the hotel’s lobby/reception, restaurant, bar and pool area.
