Gay Friendly Hotel | Ashworth By The Sea – Hampton Beach, NH

Ashworth By The Sea | 295 Ocean Boulevard | Hampton, NH 03842 | 1-603-926-6762
This past summer my wife Jennifer and I had the pleasure of staying at the only full-service oceanfront hotel in Hampton Beach — Ashworth By The Sea.
Ashworth By The Sea was built in 1912 as one of the first hotels on Hampton Beach’s Ocean Boulevard and have been welcoming guests for over a hundred years!
The hotel is open year-round and is within an hour’s drive from Portland (ME), Boston (MA), and Manchester (NH).
Ashworth By The Sea’s location is ideal as you are steps away from the Atlantic Ocean, close to outlet shopping, concert venues, colonial history and a plethora of water based sports.
Since changing ownership in 2006, the hotel has received over two million dollars in restoration and upgrades of the property.
In the spring of 2014, Ashworth By The Sea started to receive an exterior update renovation including new guestroom sliding glass doors and beautiful glass balconies providing breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Ashworth By The Sea has three onsite restaurants, offering some of the finest dining in Hampton Beach!
Dining options include:
- The Breakers: Enjoy oceanside dining. Open for lunch and dinner daily. Their specialty is, of course, seafood. You can also enjoy a drink in Breakers bar where you can enjoy dance away with their DJ. During the summer, Breakers features a breakfast buffet on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Wharfside: Serving breakfast daily from 7 AM – 11 AM.
- The Sandbar: This seasonal rooftop restaurant and lounge is located between the hotel’s two buildings and offers oceanfront views of the Atlantic. Enjoy lunch, dinner, or your favorite cocktails with friends while enjoying nightly live entertainment. The Sandbar is also the perfect spot to watch Hampton Beach’s weekly fireworks display
I should also note that guests can enjoy in-room dining from the hotel’s room service menu during restaurant hours.
Other great hotel amenities include:
- Indoor heated pool
- Complimentary Wi-Fi
- Large sun deck overlooking the Atlantic Ocean
- Valet Parking is available
- Year-round dancing and entertainment
- Exercise room
- Fax and copy services
- Over 6,000 square feet of private function and business meeting space
Accommodations:
All of the hotel’s 98 rooms and 7 executive suites were renovated in 2006 and provide a classic, nautical charm. No two guestrooms are the same. Each offers a unique style and floor plan.
Jennifer and I stayed in a king guestroom with balcony.
The room was more than ample in size, super clean, had a beautiful, (partial) ocean view and comfortable bed.

Gay & Lesbian Factor: Legalized gay marriage in New Hampshire started in January 2010, however the state has always had a liberal, welcoming attitude. After all, their state motto is: LIVE FREE OR DIE. Ashworth By The Sea is the perfect example of this attitude. The staff was super friendly and welcoming to Jennifer and I and were very excited to be featured on Gay Travel Information. They actively seek out the LGBT community and are eager to assist with everything from overnight stays, dinner reservations and wedding planning. Ashworth By The Sea is the perfect example of a company that deserves the support of the LGBT community as they are genuine in every way. I happily “OUT” Ashworth By The Sea as LGBT friendly and worthy of our business.
Our stay at Ashworth By The Sea was a mere one night, however, those 24 hours were chock full of so many lasting memories.
I will never forget the beautiful view from our balcony of Hampton Beach, the sights and smells of fried dough and pizza as we strolled down Ocean Blvd.
The sound of vintage arcade games mixed with crying seagulls and a Beatles cover band. I will never forget the immediate smile that greeted Jennifer and myself as we entered the reception area of Ashworth By The Sea and the genuine enthusiasm expressed by staff members during our stay.
I am already anticipating my return!
