Gay Ski Weeks Aplenty!

I was asked by an editor at San Diego Gay & Lesbian News to write an article about the 2011 Gay & Lesbian Ski Weeks. It is short and simple but chock full of information!

LET’S GO SKIING!

Every year I anticipate the Ski Expo here in Boston. To me, that officially marks the start of “ski season”. As a lesbian, and a lesbian travel agent at that, I have a particular interest in the multitude of gay & lesbian ski weeks that are planned each year. There always seems to be at least one new ski week added, as is the case with the First Annual Matthew Shephard Gay Ski Week at Crested Butte planned for March 19-26, 2011.

There is the granddaddy of them all, Aspen Gay Ski Week, which celebrates its 34th year in 2011. This year the event runs January 16-23 and the theme is “Wild, Wild West.”  Get those chaps ready, boys! 😉

Other popular gay ski weeks include:  Stowe’s “Winter Rendezvous”, slated for January 19-23, 2011; Whistler’s “WinterPRIDE” Gay Ski Week January 30-Feb 6, 2011; Telluride Gay Ski Week February 26-March 5, 2011; Lake Tahoe’s “Winterfest” Gay Ski Week scheduled for March 6-11, 2011 and, of course, the new Matthew Shepard Gay Ski Week at Crested Butte, March 19-26, 2011.

Up and coming gay ski weeks include Utah’s Gay Ski Week January 5-9, 2011, Vail Gay Ski Week, March 30-April 3, 2011 and Mammoth Mountain Gay Ski Week, March 16-20, 2011. These ski weeks are generally smaller in size but have seen continuous growth each year.

Let’s not forget European gay ski weeks which include – SWING Gay Ski Week in Valbella, Switzerland March 20-27, 2011, Arosa Gay Ski Week in Switzerland, January 8-15, 2011, European Gay Ski Week in Alpe d’Huez, March 26-April 2, 2011 and EuroSki Pride in Saalbach, Austria (mid to late March – dates to be announced). There is even a Gay Ski Weekend planned in Hemsedal, Norway March 11-13, 2011!

Interested in a Gay Ski Week during the SUMMER? No problem! Gay Ski Week New Zealand is scheduled for July 23-31, 2011 as well as Gay Ski Week in Chile which usually takes place the end of August. How is that for a way to cool off?

One question we receive over and over is, “Which ski week is most lesbian friendly?” The answer is – ALL OF THEM, however, Whistler’s Gay Ski Week does have the most events geared specifically toward the ladies.

Believe it or not, there are even MORE gay ski week options. The best thing to do is visit http://www.gayskitrips.com/ which is still in the process of being updated with 2011 ski week information. You can also contact me, “travelgirl”, at info@gaytravelpros.com for a customized quote.
